Mr.Cartoon X. Gshock

As part of the ‘Youth Culture’ G-shock mini-series, here are some exclusive photos of the release event for Mr. Cartoon’s effort. As you can see the designer/artist/illustrator, Cartoon himself was on hand to showcase the DW-6900 watch. With sharp detail, the watch is complete with classic Mr.Cartoon artwork in a silver/navy blue colourway. The watch is now available America-wide as well as online from G-shock.

It’s been a hotly debated topic in the comments section every time we’ve had a Gucci Mane-related post, drawing lines in the sand between fans claiming regional prefs, or fans fighting about the merits of high-brow vs low-brow raps, or even the Team Jeezy fans vs. the Team Gucci splits. But one thing that keeps coming up again and again is the recognition of this widespread Gucci-Mania that has gone from “the Trap,” to pop radio to indie hipster to music-tv takeover, and more.

Well I got to see what the mania was all about when I was down in Atlanta….Gucci hasvery limited free time, but in between shooting multiple videos, eating lunch at the scripclub (lol), dropping 3 mixtapes at once, and holding court with his rabid fans, Gucci took me to the very housing complex where he grew up and admittedly screwed up in Zone 6/East Atlanta….to chat about many things (his history with T.I., being blacklisted in ATL, his childhood,etc). But in this clip, we talked about the song that surprised me the most.

I mean sheesh, so you I had to grab it, the photography is cool. I mean pass the fact that it has naked women. The bag over the heads and than compostion within each shot. The color is crazzy. I actually looked into more of his stuff so you can tell I was a little more than intrigued. Olaf even has work in NY Times Coulture, so his work is respected.

Lebron!

So you know I am a Lakers fan. And a Kobe fan since he was playing with 8 and a afro, still wearing Krazy 8's. But Lebron changing his number; wait imagine Lebron changing his number 6 playing for the Knicks. Sheesh. I might have to cop a jersey just cause it Lebron 6, and the Knicks. Thats going to be insane.

How about Lebron saying no one in the league should wear 23. I orginally thought he bugging than I said no one will be wearing 23. Again, the way they be dick riding.

Everyone talking about Lebron in NY, how about Bron in Miami. Sheesh just imagine. I mean I dont know what to say about the Knicks but I will be watching Miami VERY CLOSE NEXT YEAR.

I just think what Michael Jordan has done for the game has to be recognized in some way – soon. There would be no LeBron James, no Kobe Bryant, no Dwyane Wade, you name all the best players in the league right now and the last 10 years, there would be none of us without Michael Jordan.

For those in the know, this isn’t a huge shock. LeBron has been spotted warming up for Cavs games wearing number 6 (one night even slipping it on by accident while sitting the bench), wore that number on his way to Olympic gold, and oh yeah, he’s been saying it since at least February 2009: “If the NBA retired 23 because of Michael like baseball did with Jackie Robinson [42], I would definitely switch it. Maybe I would someday, we’ll see.”
